At least 10 dead in fire at chemical factory in Karachi’s Mehran Town

At least 10 people died after a fire broke out at a chemical factory in Karachi's Mehran Town on Friday, officials said.

Additional Police Surgeon at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Dr Summaiya Syed said that 13 bodies were brought to the hospital, adding that more were expected.

According to a spokesman for the Pakistan Rangers (Sindh), the area had been cordoned off and Rangers personnel were engaged in relief efforts with rescue teams.

They said the fire was under control and cooling efforts were underway.

According to police officials, an Edhi volunteer, Saddam, 30, also sustained injuries while trying to extinguish the fire. The injured were also taken to JPMC.
